The purpose of our blog is to discuss topical issues, stories, and situations, as well as to share what we are up to and new ways for you to get involved. We are always searching for possible answers to the question: Why is a girl's worth culturally and historically relative?

Make a Difference Day - October 24

At 12, I began volunteering as a junior counselor at my local Girls Club. At first it was exhausting, hard work in the heat of the Florida summer, but the women and girls that I worked with opened my eyes and changed my life. Supporting the girls and giving them the tools to make healthy choices benefited my own growing up process.

Sharing my time and encouraging others has provided greater personal satisfaction and understanding of the world than the reward of a paycheck. The natural ability to do without expectation is often unlearned, but through volunteering you can achieve that incomparable feeling of true pride.

Nonprofit organizations rely on the time and efforts of volunteers to achieve many of their goals. There are thousands out there that could benefit from your efforts, both physical and mental. Giving even three hours a week can make a huge impact in your local community and your own life.

We believe that every day is an opportunity to make a difference.  For more information, check out www.makeadifferenceday.com.

Contact us at Girl Museum if you would like any suggestions about how to contribute your time to help us with our mission.

Birth Day

Today is the anniversary of our Head Girl Ashley's birth, so we decided it was auspicious for Girl Museum to join the big blogosphere.
Girl Museum is the first-ever nonprofit organization dedicated to researching and exhibiting historic and contemporary objects, images and stories from and about girlhood cross-culturally.
We are creating a public archive to preserve, protect and advocate for the knowledge and culture of girlhood as a universally significant and vulnerable state of being for all females.

The grand debut of our new and unique online museum and its inaugural exhibition is on October 31st.
We hope that everyone will join us at www.girlmuseum.org for the celebration.
