The purpose of our blog is to discuss topical issues, stories, and situations, as well as to share what we are up to and new ways for you to get involved. We are always searching for possible answers to the question: Why is a girl's worth culturally and historically relative?

In the End is the Beginning

For Girl Museum the end of 2009 is the beginning of our second excting year of life! We are very honored and proud of the progress and connections we have made and look forward to 2010 for continued growth and new projects.

I highly recommend tuning in to very important series airing on PBS, ‘A Girl's Life’, hosted by Rachel Simmons. She is the author of New York Times bestsellers Odd Girl Out: The Hidden Culture of Aggression in Girls, and The Curse of the Good Girl: Raising Authentic Girls with Courage and Confidence and the founder of the Girls Leadership Institute. We will respond on the blog after the episodes, so check your local PBS station for times.

Let’s make the decade one of positive peaceful dedication to the emotional and intellectual education of girls in this world.

What is the opposite of a miracle?

This story of a Washington DC mother who killed her four daughters is devastating and horrific.  More children possessed by demons? This speaks to the continuing breakdown of mind, family, community, and society.

It is a headline that should outrage and inspire action, but I suspect it won’t.

Peace on Earth

Something kind in a world of collateral damage. Please read.

Just a thought from the Head Girl

In a moment of micro-reflection on the year gone by, I would to thank everyone for all the support and encouragement we have received in our nascent year. We are excited about the new programs, exhibitions and partnerships kicking off next year.

A wave of interest and awareness of girls’ issues began to gain strength in 2009. We hope that 2010 brings more thought, action and progress towards safer, healthier and happier girls around the world.

During this season of family and giving, Girl Museum encourages parents to provide gifts to their daughters that educate, enlighten, and entertain. By providing quality building blocks for the women they will become, they will feel how important they are to you and to themselves. Remember every moment counts.

Check back with us in January for announcements about new participatory projects and exhibition opening dates.

Girl Museum is a Flip Video Spotlight Program Partner!

Girl Museum is excited to have been selected to partner with the Flip Video Spotlight Program, which helps promote our videos to a wider audience who may not yet be aware of our work. Flip provides a matching donation of a video camera for each one purchased.

Girl Museum is seeking funds to help us raise the $200 we need to purchase a camera.

Donations of any amount are much appreciated.

Thanks!
